Strides for Success

Are you a runner, jogger, or walker? Do you enjoy helping women and children?

Come join us for the Strides for Success 5K & 1K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, April 26th, 2009 at Fairfax Corner Shopping Center (11950 Grand Commons Avenue) in Fairfax, VA. This event is put on by the Junior League of Northern Virginia and proceeds go to benefit women and children in the Northern Virginia area through various outreach projects such as our Back to School Health Fairs, JamPacks (stuffing backpacks for kids who wouldn't have school supplies), shelter projects, and a partnership with the Children's Science Center, among many other things.

The event is lots of fun and features two separate races - a 5K and also a 1K Fun Run/Walk. Strollers are welcome in the 1K only but sorry, no dogs or headphones allowed. Last year, Olive and I did the 1K Fun Run and let me tell you, it was FUN!

Registration Information: 5K: $30 through April 20; after April 20 the fee is $35.
5K Children 10 and under - $15.00
1K Fun Run/Walk: $20.
Children 10 and under $15.

This year, I am much too big to participate so I'll be volunteering instead. This is a great event with lots of fun for the whole family. There is also a post-race brunch and a tent with children's events. The 5K starts at 9:00am, the 1K will start shortly thereafter, around 9:15am.

For more information, please visit http://www.runwashington.com/archive0209/features/stridesforsuccessinfo.html# where you can register.

Hope to see you there!

TGIF

I'm glad it's Friday. This week went by in a flash. We've been very good this week and walking several mornings with our neighbors (and today we treated ourselves to coffee too!) Here's a picture of little Olive and her cohorts. She is the giant one (ok, well she is older than the other kids but it's so funny to see her looking so big!) Isn't this just the cutest picture?
I'm glad it's almost weekend. This is tax-free weekend in Virginia on school supplies and clothes and shoes (great b/c Olive needs some new kicks and maybe some new duds for school). Save a few dollars anyways ;)
Have a great weekend!

It's Friday - where did the week go??

Every Friday morning, my mom sends me an email with the subject "TGIF" (Thank God It's Friday). I love and look forward to these emails.

But this week I'm wondering - where did the week go?? It's not like we were really all that busy, it just seems to have flown by. The beginning of the week was rough. Olive is getting four new monster teeth and has been a bit of a terror while she's in pain but by yesterday, she has been the cutest, sweetest little thing in the world, making for fun and relaxed days.

I'm excited for the weekend...no real plans. Think we're going to Harper's Ferry tomorrow morning. We've never been and it looks to be a good weekend excursion. Other than that, we'll just be transitioning Olive into her big-girl bed (finally got the rails, yippee, and a video monitor that is just loads and loads of entertainment) and catching up on some Weeds episodes on Netflix. Guess I will also maybe finally get around to cleaning the office a bit... it's still a mess!

Have a great one!!

Browsing the internet

Check out the new poll on the left-hand side... I want to know when you spend the most time browsing the internet. Do you do it at work? (I won't tell) At home? During the week? During the weekend? I find that I don't do much web stuff during the weekend (which is why I don't normally post then) but maybe that's when people are reading more. I'm just not sure...

Also, what sorts of things do you look at when you're just playing around online? Do you look at news sites? Shopping sites? Play games? Check out the local real estate? Search for a new job? Read blogs? What is it you do with your few minutes (or hours??) of coveted quiet internet time?

Where has the week gone??

I can't believe it's Friday already!! Where did this week go? These short weeks are great, but they really throw me off.

Sorry I've been a bit remiss in writing this week. I can't seem to catch up. I've been busy busy working on some big business things (more details to come soon!) and have neglected some of these other things.

But I'm glad it's weekend and time to celebrate! Olive and I started the weekend off right by hanging out with some friends and letting the kids play in the kiddie pool and backyard. What a delight. How fun to be a kid again and have no other worries than splashing in the pool and running around like crazy!!

Tomorrow is Dennis & I's anniversary (5 years!!) so looking forward to celebrating the milestone. What a great weekend and a great start to summer. I feel like it's FINALLY here. It's been a rough week - working at home is great but terrible at the same time...keeps you in a rush but at least you get time with the little ones. Anyway, in a rush again now...want to go watch a movie and drink a 'rita with Dennis. Have a great weekend!!

Weekend Activities

Today is Friday (yippee!!) except is it really all that great that it's weekend? After all, during the week, we have scheduled activities and events. I know what is going on and what's happening and when. During the weekend, we have "free time" but the question hits me each week, "what will we do??" It's different now that there's a child involved. I like to do something fun for her on the weekends but everything is too crowded. Playgrounds and parks are swimming with people right now, especially since the warm weather has just recently arrived. I hate to run errands on the weekend too because the stores are too crowded and people are too rude (and I'm spoiled that I get to go during the weekday so I dread weekend visits). I live in a great area with lots of fun activities to do but many of them are too crowded or involve too much planning (driving/parking/walking) that if any one thing goes wrong, it could be a monumental disaster. So what do you do on the weekend to kill some time, enjoy having everyone home, but stay busy enough to not be bored?
